# Soulful Zen Residences This Zen-Inspired Home Features a Less is More Approach By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-10-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeninspired-home References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/10/23/66mrn-house-by-ongong/) & [ong-ong](http://www.ong-ong.com/) ONG&ONG designed the '66MRN-House,' a zen-inspired home located in Singapore. The home is comprised of two volumes: the granite-clad front block, which contains the living and social areas, and the service block behind it, which is clad in fare-faced concrete. Between the main blocks, a [reflective pool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cupertino-courtyard-house) is nestled, acting as a divider between the spaces. The pool is located at the base of a roof-length void that becomes the home's main spatial and visual focus. The individual spaces on the ground floor form a cohesive whole when all the doors are open. The architects scrupulously maintained the [minimalist aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edge-of-calm) throughout the home, adding greenery and plant life to complement the natural textures of the space. Ultimately, the 66MRN-House is a [relaxing haven](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 47% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Zen-inspired Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create minimalist and calming living spaces that promote relaxation and well-being. - **Reflective Pools:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate reflective pools as design elements to create visual focal points and enhance the overall aesthetic of a space. - **Natural Textures:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine natural textures with minimalist design to create a harmonious and soothing environment. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate Zen-inspired design principles into architectural projects to create serene and mindful living spaces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Use reflective pools as a unique design element in interior spaces to bring a sense of tranquility and beauty to the environment. - **Landscaping:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate natural textures and greenery into landscape designs to create immersive and holistic outdoor experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimal Timber Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenhouse.md) - [Tranquil Courtyard Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sanctum-house.md) - [Japanese Concept-Inspired Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oku-house.md) - [Glass Philosophical Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge.md) - [Temple-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/j-kidman-architecture.md) - [Glass-Lined Corridor Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding.md) - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md) - [Tranquil Elevated Tiny Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-house.md) - [Zen-Inspired Tranquil Villas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-tabebuia.md)
