# Realistic Wooden Plants Yuto Yamasaki Creates House Plants for Those Lacking Green Thumbs By Meghan Young | Published 2014-06-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yuto-yamasaki References: [beautifuldecay](http://beautifuldecay.com/2014/06/24/yuto-yamasakis-hand-carved-wooden-plants-might-trick-watering/) & [yamasakiyuto.tumblr](http://yamasakiyuto.tumblr.com/) Beautiful Decay has the right of it, the work of artist Yuto Yamasaki is so [realistic, people will be tricked](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/looks-delicious) into watering them. Yet his house plants require no need for such sustenance because they are [carved out of wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hughmanity). Incredibly detailed, Yuto Yamasaki's sculptures look like the real deal. He has also painted them in accurate colors so that they better represent the [succulents, palms and bonsais](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trader-joes-mini-can-foliage) he has made by hand. Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Yuto Yamasaki works with wood in particular because he has easy access to the material. He states, “The issue is not what I make; there is no meaning to be found in my pieces beyond a confirmation of the existence of the artist and his experience of making the work.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.5/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Realistic Wooden Art:** Opportunity to disrupt the art industry by offering realistic wooden sculptures as a unique and long-lasting alternative. - **Botanical Home Decor:** Potential for innovative home decor businesses to create realistic wooden house plants that require no maintenance. - **Eco-friendly Garden Design:** Opportunity for landscape architects and designers to incorporate sustainable wooden plants into their designs for low-maintenance, long-lasting greenery. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** Disruptive innovation potential in the art world by introducing realistic wooden sculptures as a new medium. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for the home decor industry to offer realistic wooden house plants as a sustainable and low-maintenance alternative to real plants. - **Landscape Architecture/design:** Disruptive potential in the landscaping industry by incorporating eco-friendly realistic wooden plants into garden designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Repurposed Wooden Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/darren-appiagyei.md) - [Artsy Hanging Plants](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-air-plant-mobile.md) - [Geometric Wooden Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aleph-geddis.md) - [Nature-Inspired Design Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plantbased-2.md) - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Plush Plant-Shaped Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amuseable-bonsai-tree.md) - [Explorative Material Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yucca-stuff.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Forest-Inspired Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayashi-cabinet.md)
