# Animalistic Cone Lighting The Yorky Lamp by Hlynur Atlason is as Cute as a Yorkie Puppy By Meghan Young | Published 2013-02-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yorky-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/yorky-lamp-by-hlynur-atlason-for-artecnica/) & [artecnicainc](http://www.artecnicainc.com/) It is hard to say whether or not the Yorky Lamp was inspired by a Yorkie dog even though the [animalistic qualities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snoopy-lamp) all point to yes. The dispute lies in the fact that aside from the adorable leg-like base of the Yorky Lamp, it has a [cone shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light) that is decidedly not doggish. Of course, it could look like a Yorkie has trapped himself in a cone of some sort. Designed by New York-based industrial designer Hlynur Atlason in collaboration with Los Angeles based design company Artecnica, the [Yorky Lamp is very versatile](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tangent-lamp). It can sit down on its 'hind legs,' tip over to the side or even be mounted on the wall as if it were climbing it somehow. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Animal-inspired Lighting:** Designing animal-inspired lighting fixtures that embody both the physical and personality traits of an animal opens up opportunities for unique and memorable product designs. - **Versatile Lighting:** Designing lighting fixtures that have multiple functions and can be utilized in various placements allows for greater flexibility in interior design. - **Collaborative Design:** Collaborating with industrial designers and design companies from different locations can lead to the creation of innovative and diverse products. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Home Decor:** Creating animal-inspired and versatile lighting fixtures for home decor purposes. - **Interior Design:** Providing interior designers with diverse and unique lighting options. - **Industrial Design:** Working with industrial designers in collaborative efforts to create innovative and diverse products. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Retro-Tinged Compact Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lari-mini.md) - [Geometric Nostalgic Night Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handmaid-table-lamp.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Ice Cream-Resembling Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-serve-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Pasta-Inspired Curvaceous Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic-lamp.md) - [Cutesy Coiled Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-helix-lamp.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md) - [Bold Playful Lighting Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp.md)
