# Abominable Snowman Discovered Yeti Hair to Be DNA Tested By Pearl | Published 2008-07-29 | Science Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yeti-hair-to-be-dna-tested References: [telegraph](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2464419/Mystery-hairs-may-have-come-from-a-Yeti.html) The Abominable Snowman or [Yeti](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yeti-snowmx) could soon be proven real. UK scientist have completed preliminary examinations of hair collected from a part of India where the mande barung as it is called there had been repeatedly sighted. Primate expert, Ian Redmond said the hairs bear “startling resemblance” to similar hairs collected by Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary who later donated them to the [Natural History Museum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/londons-natural-history-museum) in London. The scientists used the most sophisticated microscopes for their examination and were not able to link the hairs to any known species of primate, bear or boar. The hairs fortunately still had follicles containing cells. Therefore they will be sent for subsequent [DNA analysis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/genome-sequencing) at different laboratories. Only after the results are revealed will the world know for certain where a nearly 10 ft tall ape-like creature exists. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Science](https://www.trendhunter.com/science) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **DNA Testing:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity in developing more advanced and accurate DNA testing methods. - **Cryptid Sightings:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity in creating technology or tools for accurately identifying and documenting sightings of cryptid creatures. - **Species Discovery:** There is a disruptive innovation opportunity in conducting more extensive research and exploration to discover new species. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Scientific Research:** The scientific research industry has an opportunity to develop new methods and technologies for DNA analysis and species identification. - **Museum and Exhibits:** Museums and exhibits have an opportunity to create educational exhibits around cryptids and the scientific process of DNA testing. - **Adventure Tourism:** The adventure tourism industry can take advantage of the interest in cryptid sightings by offering guided expeditions and tours to areas where these creatures are rumored to exist. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ancient DNA Tests](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/myheritage-ancient-origins.md) - [Fuzzy Blue Sneakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dunk-low-abominable-snowman.md) - [Natural Environment-Analyzing Drones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edrone.md) - [All-Black Climbing Teams](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/full-circle-everest.md) - [DNA-Powered Hair Growth Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dnapowered-hair-growth-system.md) - [Dinosaur-Themed Leather Bags](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/labgrown-leather-ltd.md) - [Bigfoot-Inspired Bizarre Footwear](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ninlo.md) - [Fuzzy Winter-Themed Sneakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abominable-snowman-dunk-low.md) - [Carbon Fiber Snow Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2023-yeti-snowmx-lineup.md)
