# Illusory Unbalanced Office Trays The Protrude Tray by Yasuko Furukawa Can Be Clamped to Your Table By Tia Clarke | Published 2013-04-17 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yasuko-furukawa References: [yoy-idea.jp](http://yoy-idea.jp/works/protrude/) This illusory tray by Yasuko Furukawa looks like it's about to fall and spill your coffee everywhere. But fear not -- it's just a clever design trick. This [wooden tray](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tray210) is actually clamped onto the side of the table, making it a solid resting place for your mugs of coffee or lunch. This gravity defying tray is perfect for people who are [working on projects at their desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-set) and need to keep their coffee and lunch away from their computers or important manuscripts. The tray comes with a simple yet hugely effective design function that allows you to simply screw it onto the underside of your desk. The clamp is discreet and minimalist enough so that people will never guess how you managed to pull off this feat of visual trickery. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 87% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Illusory Design:** Opportunity for creating visually deceptive products that challenge our perception. - **Functional Desk Accessories:** Opportunity to develop innovative and practical items for the workspace. - **Discreet Attachment Mechanisms:** Opportunity to create minimalist and efficient clamping solutions for various applications. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Innovative designs for desk trays and other office accessories. - **Consumer Electronics:** Development of products that keep food and beverages safe around electronic devices. - **Industrial Manufacturing:** Production of discreet and versatile clamping mechanisms for different industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Puzzling Removable Tray Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-puzzle-table.md) - [Race‑inspired Tracker Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/race-track-desk.md) - [Modular Wooden Desk Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/track-concept.md) - [Undulating Desktop Valet Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wav-minimal-desk-organizer.md) - [Floating Architectural Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1949-protractor-desk.md) - [Off-Kilter Desktop Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concept-pen-holder.md) - [Portable Tray Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/taso-tray-table.md) - [Humorous Quick Cleanup Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-desk-concept.md) - [Minimalist Clutter-Free Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parallel-work-table.md)
