# Human-Tangled Trees 'Xylem' by Angelo Musco Show Humankind's Deep Connection with the Planet By Meghan Young | Published 2011-11-11 | Updated 2011-11-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xylem-by-angelo-musco References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/trees-made-from-5-million-bodies) & [angelomusco](http://www.angelomusco.com/) The artwork simply titled Xylem by Angelo Musco is absolutely breathtaking. Created by the same artist who brought us the stunning mosaic of [swarming human bodies](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/angelo-musco), this particular one is slightly more earthy. That's because it takes on the image of a tree, or more specifically, a tree's roots. The word 'xylem' conveniently means 'wood' in classical Greek. Xylem by Angelo Musco shows humankind's deep connection, quite literally, with the planet. Of course, trees symbolize such things as fertility, security, interconnection and historical roots or ancestry. Therefore, this work of art encourages its audience to reflect on these ideas in addition to their relationship with the environment around them. Xylem by Angelo Musco is set to debut at the Pulse Art Fair during Art Basel Miami Beach. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 66% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Human-tangled Trees:** The trend of using art to reflect human's connection with the environment and promote eco-friendly lifestyles. - **Interconnected Roots:** The trend of exploring the interconnectedness and history of humanity through the metaphor of tree roots. - **Environmental Reflection:** The trend of encouraging reflection on one's relationship with the environment and fostering a more sustainable lifestyle through art and other mediums. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include creating eco-friendly art installations that highlight environmental issues and inspire more sustainable practices. - **Sustainability:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include developing products and services that encourage consumers to reduce their carbon footprint and protect the environment. - **Tourism:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include incorporating sustainable art installations in tourist destinations to promote environmental awareness and eco-tourism. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md) - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Human Nature-Themed Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-im-awake.md) - [Wooden Identity Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hughmanity.md) - [Artful Soil-Bending Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/el-abrazo.md) - [Pixelated Photographed Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/southern-trees.md) - [Tree-Integrated Mysterious Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-mural.md) - [Air-Purifying Tree Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treeone.md)
