# Extendable Flap Seating The X-Z Chair Stylishly Provides Both Shade and Storage By Meghan Young | Published 2012-05-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/x-z-chair References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/1669730/clever-beach-chair-has-storage-and-shade-built-in) & [numen.eu](http://www.numen.eu/) People should step up their beach and deck furniture game with an X-Z Chair or two. This outdoor seating option may look like a typical, albeit stylish, version of a [beach chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vintageinspired-beach-chair), but it boasts some uncommon features that sets it apart from its low-brow sibling. Two of the X-Z Chair's crowning features are its [extendable flap](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-flap-chair), which provides [shade from the scorching sun](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ensombra) at whim and a discreet pocket beneath the seat that is roomy enough to store such beach staples as sunblock, water bottles and magazines. Created by the Croatian-Austrian design collective known as Numen/For Use, the X-Z Chair has a sturdy and warm frame made out of Acacia wood, which pulls both of the flaps taut to ensure they don't collapse around the sitter. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Extendable Flap Seating:** The extendable flap seating trend offers an opportunity for designers to create innovative outdoor furniture with added functionality. - **Shade and Storage Combination:** The combination of shade and storage in seating options presents an opportunity for furniture manufacturers to create versatile and convenient products. - **Discreet Pocket Design:** The trend of discreet pockets in seating provides an opportunity for designers to create stylish furniture that offers hidden storage solutions. ### Where This Applies - **Outdoor Furniture:** The trend of extendable flap seating creates an opportunity for the outdoor furniture industry to create innovative and functional products. - **Design and Manufacturing:** The combination of shade and storage in seating options offers an opportunity for the design and manufacturing industry to collaborate and produce innovative products. - **Home and Garden Retail:** The trend of discreet pocket design in furniture presents an opportunity for the home and garden retail industry to offer stylish and functional seating options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Versatile Beach Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versatile-beach-chair.md) - [Durable Designer Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/breeo-x-series-chair.md) - [Beach Backpack Recliners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beach-backpack-recliner.md) - [Marine-Grade Sun Shades](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shibumi-shade.md) - [Ergonomic Inflated Reclined Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/johannes-faurebrac.md) - [Open-Air Summer Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipz-on-summer-chair.md) - [Practical Folding Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patan-chair.md) - [Dual-Purpose Camping Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-a.md) - [Vibrant Chaise Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/versarest.md)
