# Star Wars-Themed Lighting The X Wing Lamp by Benjamin Rice is Darkly Futuristic By Meghan Young | Published 2014-04-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/x-wing-lamp References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2014/04/22/X-Wing-Lamp-Lights-Up-the-Night/) & [behance.net](https://www.behance.net/gallery/Star-Wars-Theme-Light-fitting-/15929049) The X Wing Lamp looks like something that would have come out of the 'TRON: Legacy' movie instead of 'Star Wars,' yet the shape of the light fixture is clearly inspired by the starfighter. It is simply the minimalist framing and use of [neon lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bauhaus-sunset-lamp) that brings to mind the other sci-fi flick. It is this modern touch, however, that really makes the X Wing Lamp stand out. Designed by Benjamin Rice, an industrial designer based in Manchester, United Kingdom, the X Wing Lamp was created for the SPIN LONDON event, an urban cycling show. It was made in collaboration with [Northern Backdrop Interior](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxor-light) design using Old Raleigh Grifters which were sourced from Ebay/[Gumtree](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypegolf-japan). An impressive model, it brings an air of mystery and intrigue in addition to a futuristic flair. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 49% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Minimalist Lighting:** Designing light fixtures with minimalist framing and neon lights, inspired by futuristic sci-fi movies like 'TRON: Legacy' and 'Star Wars'. - **Dark and Futuristic Design:** Creating lighting products with a dark and futuristic aesthetic, reminiscent of the starfighter from 'Star Wars' and the movie 'TRON: Legacy'. - **Collaborative Product Design:** Engaging in collaborations between industrial designers, interior designers, and other professionals to create unique and impressive lighting designs like the X Wing Lamp. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting Design:** The lighting design industry can embrace minimalist framing and neon lights to create futuristic and visually striking products. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate dark and futuristic lighting designs, like the X Wing Lamp, to create an air of mystery and intrigue in modern spaces. - **Urban Cycling Events:** Collaborations between industrial designers and events like the SPIN LONDON show can lead to the creation of innovative lighting designs that capture the essence of the event and appeal to a futuristic aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci Fi-Inspired Desk Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightsaber-lego.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spacetime-transformation-lamp.md) - [Sci-Fi Spacecraft LEGO Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scifi-spacecraft-lego-set.md) - [Ethereal Space-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wormhole-table-lamp.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Spaced-Themed LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-room.md) - [Millennium Falcon Trays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-wars-tray.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Lenses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ray-ban-star-wars.md) - [Astronaut Night Light Projectors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/night-light-projectors.md)
