Chris Robinson introduces the ingenious tsunami-proof pod, built within the comfort of his Palo Alto, California backyard. Though he’s never built a boat or sailed before, and is aware of the unlikelihood of a tidal wave hitting Silicon Valley, Robinson has invested two years of his time towards building a defense for one.

Constructed with plywood and epoxy, this storm-proof capsule measures in at 22 feet long, 10 feet wide and 8.5 feet high.
After witnessing the devastation of the Fukushima disaster and flood-devastated Japan, Robinson made the initiative to be ready for any [unexpected natural disaster](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lift-house).

The design was inspired from [oil-derrick escape pods](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alastair-philip-wiper) and a Canadian artist who constructs [wooden spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omer-arbel) that double as hotel rooms. The former Facebook and PayPal art director used Adobe Illustrator to sketch up his tsunamiball plan, and has brought it to life over a two-year span, ensuring his safety for any storm Mother Nature has in store.
