# Winged Roof Buildings The Wuxi Grand Theatre by PES-Architects Looks Like a Landing Butterfly By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wuxi-grand-theatre References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2012/08/27/wuxi-grand-theatre-by-pes-architects/) & [pesark](http://www.pesark.com/) The Wuxi Grand Theatre looks like it is going to take flight at any moment. The roof has a winged effect gives the structure a sculpturally striking aesthetic that will vastly improve the [waterfront peninsula](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lake-house-life-experience-pavilion) of Wu-Li Lake, which can be found south of Wuxi centre city in Jiangsu, China. Even the architects write, that it gives "the impression of a butterfly descending onto the shore." A [cultural hub](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aydc-public-art-centre), it will serve many functions, although mainly providing space for a [classical and Chinese opera](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hamburg-state-opera), ballet and symphony orchestral. Designed by PES-Architects, the Wuxi Grand Theatre was given its form so that it too could be regarded as a work of art and not just a center for the arts. It also offers stunning views of the surrounding lake. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Winged-roof Architecture:** New architecture designs that incorporate winged roofs in their buildings. - **Sculptural Aesthetics:** Incorporating sculpturally striking aesthetics to improve building designs. - **Cultural Hub Buildings:** Building centers for the arts that serve multiple cultural functions. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Incorporating new sculptural designs in architecture. - **Arts and Culture:** Building centers for arts and culture with multiple functions. - **Real Estate:** Integrating sculptural designs into real estate properties to add value and attract customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Everchanging Water-Based Theaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yichang-grand-theatre.md) - [Swooped Museum Roof Planes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suzhou-museum-of-contemporary-art.md) - [Sculptural Photocoltaic Theater Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/opera-and-ballet-theatre-of-kosovo.md) - [Ring-Shaped Open-Air Amphitheaters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luhu-ring-of-starlight.md) - [Arched Garden-Topped Cultural Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hengqin-culture-and-art-complex.md) - [Swooped Roof Chinese Airports](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lishui-airport.md) - [Sweeping Culture Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/river-culture-and-art-centre.md) - [Water Flow-Inspired Art Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanhai-arts-center.md) - [Floating Opera Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/isola-della-musica.md)
