# Handsome Half-Pipe Tables This Writing Desk Deviates Delightfully from the Typical Flat Top By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/writing-desk-by-benjamin-boyce References: [archidesignclub](http://www.archidesignclub.com/magazine/rubriques/design/45479-benjamin-boyce-bureau.html) & [benjaminboyce](http://www.benjaminboyce.co.uk/desk.html) Someone sitting at the Writing Desk by Benjamin Boyce might be looking for the experience of being boxed in from distraction, and while this piece will effectively offer this environment, the user will not feel uncomfortably enclosed. The furnishing was executed with a much softer surface approach, by which the designer gently turned the tabletop upwards and into a short privacy screen. A frame of lovely [solid oak](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/model-36) was used to construct the [contemporary escritoire](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/single-desk), incorporating a pair of drawers and a gap in the center for the sitter. The [smooth and sloping work surface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spout) of the study carrel is finished in a soft vinyl material with a retro turquoise color. The beautiful Writing Desk by Benjamin Boyce is a charming twist of traditional and contemporary design. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.4/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 1% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Escritoires:** There is an opportunity for designers to create modern writing desks with unique features, such as privacy screens and unconventional designs, to cater to individuals looking for a focused workspace. - **Soft Vinyl Finishes:** Furniture manufacturers can explore the use of soft vinyl materials in various colors to add a retro touch to their products, appealing to consumers seeking a blend of nostalgia and modern design. - **Twists of Traditional and Contemporary Design:** Designers can create furniture pieces that seamlessly blend traditional and contemporary elements, providing a fresh take on classic designs and appealing to consumers who appreciate both styles. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can take advantage of the trend for contemporary escritoires and soft vinyl finishes by incorporating these elements into their product lines, offering unique and appealing options for customers. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can make use of writing desks with twists of traditional and contemporary design to add a focal point to spaces, showcasing the seamless blend of different styles and creating visually interesting environments. - **Workplace Solutions:** Companies specializing in workplace solutions and office furniture can offer contemporary escritoires with privacy screens as innovative options for individuals seeking focused and distraction-free workspaces, enhancing productivity and employee satisfaction. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fold-Out WFH Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/writing-bureau.md) - [Minimalist Monochromatic Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arqus-desk.md) - [Hyper-Customizable Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hypercustomizable-desk.md) - [Ultra-Chic Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-desks.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Cozy Home Office Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tabloid-desk.md) - [Minimalist Demure Designer Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backup-desk.md) - [Elegant Working Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mindset-builtin-computer-desk.md) - [Minimalist Modular Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/console-desk.md)
