In an effort to curb the rise of [disease-carrying mosquitos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/health-acoustic-representations), San-Juan-based Wovenware is introducing a new [AI to track the insects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aces-pest-control-meta) in Puerto Rico. Brought on in the wake of Hurrican Maria, the island state has seen a rapid influx of Zika, dengue and chikungunya. This is where the Wovenware AI comes into play. The use of this AI aims to combat the growth and spread of these mosquitos, while also identifying why a number of mosquito species have developed immunities to [FDA](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-healthcare)-approved adulticides and larvicides.

The ultimate goal of Wovenware is to replace human cataloguers of mosquitos. The start-up has already partnered with the Research Trust to further develop this machine learning system. This leveraging of AI is the first of its kind and will provide serious implications for controlling the spread of insect-borne illnesses.
