Remember **[Underwater Hockey](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-first-underwater-ice-hockey-world-championship)**? Well, now China has staged what is believed to be the world's first underwater golf tournament. The event took place at the Zuohai Aquarium in Fuzhou city which is in Fujian. The game involved five players who golfed around in a 50ft deep tank. "“The rules are pretty much the same as for regular golf. Whoever gets the ball in the hole first wins the match,” an aquarium spokesman told the [People's Daily](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paddy-scotts). But players were judged on how long it took them to complete the hole rather than the number of strokes taken. “The water makes the match very interesting. Not only fish and mammals distract the players, but their buoyancy makes it hard for them to stabilise themselves.” Water currents also make the trajectory of the ball hard to predict, he added. The winner sunk the ball in just one minute and 20 seconds, while the one who came last took five minutes." **Implications** - Today's restless consumer is constantly seeking new ways to enjoy themselves, with odd innovations like underwater golf providing the perfect method. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Sports](https://www.trendhunter.com/sports) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Underwater Golf Tournaments:** Odd innovations like underwater golf provide a unique and entertaining experience for consumers seeking new ways to enjoy themselves. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Aquariums:** Aquariums can capitalize on the trend of underwater golf tournaments by hosting events and attracting visitors with unique experiences. - **Sports Entertainment:** The sports entertainment industry can explore opportunities to incorporate underwater golf tournaments into their offerings, providing a fresh and exciting experience for fans. - **Tourism:** The tourism industry can promote destinations that offer underwater golf tournaments, attracting travelers who are looking for unique and unconventional activities during their trips. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Gamified Golfing Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf2earn-platform.md) - [NFT Golf Games](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golf-mode.md) - [Waterproof Golf Suits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tindall-rain-jacket.md) - [Madrid-Based Underwater Pubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pubmarine.md) - [Recycled Mini Golf Courses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miniature-golf-course.md) - [Crypto-Based Golfing Clubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/linksdao.md) - [Interactive Golf Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hackers-golf.md) - [Underwater Vending Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/underwater-vending-machine.md) - [Grass-Roots Golf Gatherings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/links-social-tour.md)
