# Contemporary Timber Tiles These WoodSmithe Wooden Tiles Produce a Handsome Hybrid Aesthetic By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodsmithe-wooden-tiles References: [latimes](http://www.latimes.com/features/home/la-lh-handsome-coffee-los-angeles-design-20121003,0,4425334.story) & [woodsmithe](http://woodsmithe.com/blog/2012/08/31/handsome-fyf-fest-coffee-carts/) The size and structure of different materials dictate the way that they tend to be treated for use; but who says one must conform to the norm? These WoodSmithe wooden tiles have been beautifully crafted to somewhat unusual dimensions, more often seen in [ceramic slabs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uu-tiles-collection). The small and thin rectangles of precisely cut and carefully sanded lumber hardly look like their true material because of this unfamiliar image. They are reminiscent of the [interior tiling of subway platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luma), bathroom walls or kitchen backsplashes. A close look will reveal the [subtle wood grain pattern](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/project-collection) to the WoodSmithe wooden tiles and their matte finish gives them a lovely softness. They have been used here to decorate the Handsome Coffee Roasters portable cafe carts with exquisite etched images. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.5/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Unconventional Material Use:** WoodSmithe wooden tiles challenge traditional use of materials by adopting unusual dimensions and designs. - **Hybrid Aesthetic:** WoodSmithe wooden tiles create a unique blend of wood and tile aesthetics, offering a fresh and contemporary design option. - **Matte Finish Trend:** The matte finish of WoodSmithe wooden tiles taps into the growing demand for matte textures in interior design. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** WoodSmithe wooden tiles offer a disruptive product for interior designers seeking unconventional materials and hybrid aesthetics. - **Construction and Renovation:** The unconventional use of WoodSmithe wooden tiles presents an opportunity for construction and renovation companies to provide unique and innovative design options to their customers. - **Art and Craftsmanship:** WoodSmithe wooden tiles showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of woodworking, appealing to art enthusiasts and those looking for unique handmade decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wood-Patterned Porcelain Stoneware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cortina-tile-collection.md) - [Performance-Driven Minimalist Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-tile.md) - [Versatile Remolded Linoleum Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flaxwood.md) - [Naturalistic Mosaic Design Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mosaic-wall-tiles.md) - [Waffle-Like Patterned Ceramic Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubik.md) - [Sculpted Pattern Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osso-bottone.md) - [Contemporary Terracotta Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cottomilano.md) - [Contemporary Stoneware Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-imperial-tiles.md) - [Textured Porcelain Tile Ranges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lexicon-tile.md)
