Max Holst Arkitektkontor designed this woodland villa for Swedish developer 'Strömma Project' in Varmdo, Sweden, a wooded region outside of Stockholm.

Holst covered the two-storey structure in [black paint](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smoke-lake-cabin). Specifically, he used Falu Rödfärg, a traditional Swedish paint hailing from a copper mine in Dalarna. Traditionally, red shades are used to paint wooden villas, barns and cottages; however, Holst opted for black because of its earthy quality that better blends into the [woodland surroundings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winterfell).

Holst collaborated with the developers to create the layout, deciding on a [rectilinear building](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tallowwood-cabin) with a south-facing facade. The biggest challenge for the architect was to create a home with enough square-footage, but which also didn't comprise the natural environment of the woodland.
