Although wood is a very traditional building material, timber is increasingly being used as a contemporary finish for modern buildings. This beautiful new tower will use timber to create a mesmerizing spiraled design. Kuma's new building will be know as The Darling Exchange and it will be located by Sydney's Darling Harbour. Like Kuma's other buildings, the civic center will boast [contemporary timber cladding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cleveland-foundation) around the exterior. To give the building an even more unique look, each of the six floors will be positioned slightly off center to create a [spiraling design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/czech-pavilion). When circular geometry is combined with the wood screen, the design will allow for snippets of the activity inside to be viewed from the plaza below. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Timber as Contemporary Finish:** The use of timber as a contemporary finish for modern buildings presents opportunities for architects and builders to create unique and visually appealing designs. - **Spiraled Building Designs:** The incorporation of spiraled designs in buildings using timber as a cladding material provides innovative and captivating architectural opportunities. - **Viewable Interior Spaces:** Designing buildings with snippets of viewable interior spaces allows for a more interactive and engaging experience for visitors and passersby. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects can explore the use of timber as a contemporary finish to create distinctive and sustainable structures. - **Construction:** Builders can pioneer the use of timber cladding in spiraled designs to offer new and visually stimulating options for clients. - **Hospitality and Entertainment:** Hotels, theaters, and other public spaces can utilize viewable interior spaces to enhance the overall visitor experience and create interesting focal points. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Curved Sculptural Skyscrapers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alberni.md) - [Wooden Residential Parisian Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yamatani.md) - [Timber Research Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anthony-timberlands.md) - [Eucalyptus Wood Curved Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/armadillo-pavilion.md) - [Sleek Spiralling Ramp Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/czech-pavilion.md) - [Art Center Sweeping Canopies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/centro-de-arte-moderna-gulbenkian.md) - [Organic Striking Tower Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leaves.md) - [Hidden Garden Timber Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-room-around-a-tree.md) - [Black Timber Structural Pyramids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kwaee.md)
