# Handcrafted Wooden Pyramids Nikolay Polissky's Latest Project is Slated to Be Burned Down By Joey Haar | Published 2017-02-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-pyramid References: [archdaily](http://www.archdaily.com/804475/nikolay-polissky-unveils-latest-handcrafted-wood-structure) & [maslenitsa.nikola-lenivets.ru](http://maslenitsa.nikola-lenivets.ru/) Russian artist Nikolay Polissky's latest project is a [large, handcrafted wooden pyramid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyramid-hut) built from [recycled pallets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upcycled-sauna) and the tops of logs — materials most often relegated as cheap sources of firewood during frigid Russian winters. Polissky chose such material for his wooden pyramid because of its celebratory purpose; the structure is for the upcoming Maslenitsa festival, a traditional spring holiday in Russia that culminates with the ceremonial burning of symbols that represent winter. The wooden pyramid is still in its construction phase at the moment. In the coming weeks, Polissky will cover the exterior with [unusable rolls of hay](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories) that will help the pyre to burn down more easily. That eventual burning ceremony will take place in the field where the pyramid stands on February 25th. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Recycled Pallet Creations:** Opportunity to create unique and sustainable products using discarded pallets. - **Symbolic Art Installations:** Potential to create powerful art installations that convey deep meanings and provoke thought. - **Cultural Festivals:** Innovation opportunities around designing immersive experiences for traditional celebrations and their associated rituals. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Sculpture:** Disruptive potential in using unconventional materials and techniques to create visually striking artworks. - **Furniture and Home Decor:** Opportunity to tap into the eco-friendly market by repurposing discarded pallets into unique furniture pieces. - **Event Planning and Entertainment:** Potential for innovative event concepts that incorporate cultural rituals and create memorable experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Black Timber Structural Pyramids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kwaee.md) - [Japanese Technique Paneled Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shou-sugi-ban.md) - [Skateable Pyramid Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playlab.md) - [Altered Pyramid Concrete Monuments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyramid-of-tirana.md) - [Charred-Wood Tranquil Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3to1-pavilion.md) - [Festival-Based Mycelium Pavlions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayes-pavilion.md) - [Wooden Identity Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hughmanity.md) - [Pyramidal Concrete Japanese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyramid-hut.md) - [Fraying Dynamic Wooden Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/match-house.md)
