# Towering Timber Tabletops The Babylon Wooden Desk Shelf Design is Impossibly Tall By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-04-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-desk References: [mocoloco](http://mocoloco.com/fresh2/2013/04/03/babylon-tower-desk-by-andreason-leibel-done.php) & [works.andreasonleibel](http://works.andreasonleibel.com/Babylon-Tower-Desk) Held together with hidden magnetic screws, the Babylon Tower wooden desk design looks as though it is barely held together, tapering into a tall construction that threatens to collapse at any moment. Designed by Andréason & Leibel, the [tall shelving unit](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life) that is attached to the tabletop was inspired by a 16th-century painting of the Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel. The precariously tall structure consists of lacquered larch wood that has an ombre effect going from dark pink to pale wood to enhance the length and distance from the bottom to the top. The Babylon Tower wooden desk shelf design can also be collapsed into a [flat pack](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-bean-standing-desk) for easy storage and transportation. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Towering Furniture Design:** Designing tall and innovative furniture pieces inspired by art can provide new and exciting ways to elevate interior experiences. - **Magnetic Fastening Systems:** Incorporating hidden magnetic fastening systems can offer a sleek and futuristic look in furniture design, while also providing easier assembly and disassembly. - **Sustainable Wooden Design:** Creating sustainable and eco-friendly wooden furniture designs can appeal to the environmentally conscious consumer market and contribute to a greener future. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can benefit from incorporating innovative and functional furniture designs to enhance a consumer's home experience. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can offer unique and customizable furniture pieces that elevate design visions and displays. - **Sustainability:** The sustainability industry can benefit from incorporating eco-friendly and ethically sourced materials in furniture design to contribute to a greener future. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vertical Desk Organizers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tower-desk1.md) - [Storage-Packed Workstation Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-x-shelf-x-self-table.md) - [Vertical Home Office Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leandesk.md) - [Ultra-Chic Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-desks.md) - [Minimalist Storage-Friendly Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bold-desk.md) - [Ergonomic Multi-Use Desk Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kabinett-desk.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Rolling Leather Bookshelf Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stretch-desk.md) - [Modular Fold-Out Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-wooden-workstation.md)
