# Bold Buttoned Illuminators The Sophie Wooden Desk Lamps Mix Timber Craftsmanship with Textiles By Gil Cohen | Published 2013-05-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-desk-lamps References: [themag.it](http://www.themag.it/inspiration/2013/sophie-lamp.html) & [lasfera.de](http://www.lasfera.de/produkte/sophie-lampe/) [Sophie](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/howls-moving-castle-merchandise) is a line of wooden desk lamps from design studio Lasfera that features elegantly minimalist shapes with some surprising pops of detail. Dark or pale wooden exteriors give this chunky lamp collection a heavy-duty look although it is, in fact, light and hollow. In contrast with this woodworking style, the lampshade features a single row of buttons that continues all the way down to the base of each lamp. As an artistic form of optical illusion, the buttons appear to be holding the wood together as the timber panels overlap beneath them. The delicate textile button additions are what set the Sophie line of [bold wooden desk lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-lebow-table-lamp) apart, adding a quirky and unusual hint of humor that those with a true eye for detail will greatly appreciate. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 44% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Wooden Desk Lamps:** Opportunity for designers to incorporate unexpected design elements such as textiles and buttons. - **Woodworking with Textiles:** Opportunity for furniture and home decor manufacturers to combine woodworking and soft textiles. - **Artistic Optical Illusion Design:** Opportunity for designers to incorporate optical illusions and playful details into home decor. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Opportunity for furniture manufacturers to create unique and visually appealing lighting products. - **Home Decor:** Opportunity for home decor companies to create bold and statement-making lighting products. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate unexpected design elements into their projects, such as minimalist wooden desk lamps with textile button details. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculpted Wooden Desktop Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleepy-wood-desk-lamp.md) - [Serene Wooden Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sleepy-wood.md) - [Colorful Geometric Desk Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spot-on-desk.md) - [Twisting Timber Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-lasercut-wooden-lampshade.md) - [Wooden Warm Light Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modernism-lighting.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Wooden Sustainable Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodo.md) - [Soft Comfort Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-lamp.md) - [Pencil Shaving-Inspired Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sharpener-lampshades.md)
