# Storage-Stuffed Stairways A Wooden Cabinet Staircase Makes the Most of a Tight Living Space By Amelia Roblin | Published 2015-01-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-cabinet-staircase References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2015/01/03/buj-colon-architects-plywood-trio-apartment-refurbish-madrid-staircase-storage/) & [buj-colon](http://www.buj-colon.com/projects/casa-plywood-trio/) Looking at this wooden cabinet staircase, one may be surprised as to how unobstructed the configuration looks. Anyone who's tried to rework a stairway in his or her home would likely consider it a massive space suck. With a very thoughtful design, Buj+Colón Arquitectos managed to make the architectural feature look lightweight and full of purpose. Robust timber panels create a [sturdy structure of treads and risers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house), forming a surprisingly thin landing over a doorway and continuing upwards to the floor above. The [Casa Plywood Trio's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-sofia) components act aesthetically like frames, containing cupboards and cubbies within the lower section of the ascenders. It appears as though every inch is available as a usable nook or cranny for stashing books and all sorts of possessions. This wooden cabinet staircase does a rare job of completely optimizing the space that it occupies. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 43% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Wooden Cabinet Staircases:** Exploring the use of wooden cabinet staircases to maximize space in tight living areas, providing an innovative storage solution. - **Thoughtful Design:** Embracing thoughtful design to create architectural features that appear lightweight and purposeful while maximizing the use of space. - **Optimizing Space:** Finding innovative ways to optimize space in stairways by utilizing nooks and crannies for storage. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Opportunities for architects and interior designers to incorporate wooden cabinet staircases into their designs, providing a unique storage solution. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Manufacturers of wooden cabinets and staircases can explore the production of integrated storage solutions for small living spaces. - **Real Estate and Home Improvement:** Real estate professionals and home improvement companies can consider the use of wooden cabinet staircases to add value and functionality to properties with limited space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Timbered Passage Stair Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-annex.md) - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Playful Rotating Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giralot-rotating-storage.md) - [Forest-Inspired Wooden Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hayashi-cabinet.md) - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Reimagined Traditional Library Ladders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/step-by-step-ladder.md) - [Compact Madrid Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burr-studio-1.md) - [Multifunctional Layered Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/n15-layered-furniture.md)
