A wooden building that could soon become part of the London skyline, the [Barbican Estate](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/feel-the-sound) tower is crafted as a multi-use building to help enrich the bustling metropolis. With a set height of 80-storeys, the building would bring an additional 1,000 housing units to the city; that's about one million additional square feet of residential floorspace.

The building has been designed in collaboration with the [Cambridge University Department of Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-toneoptic-rpm) and would bring about several difficult challenges. It has been argued that [wooden buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/katajanokan-laituri) can actually outperform other building materials in the event of a fire, which could help make the building more resilient. Although it's unclear when the project is planned to begin, the plans have been submitted to the mayor for approval.
