The type of material used is called balsa wood, which is a very light but strong kind of wood which can be carved and molded very easily with standard wood carving tools. The pieces of wood of varying thickness were glued together until the desired result, a mock-up Canon DSLR, was achieved. The Canon website shows step-by-step instructions if you're inclined to make one for yourself. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **DIY Cameras:** Opportunity for businesses to create and sell DIY camera kits for photography enthusiasts. - **Woodworking Crafts:** Potential for businesses to tap into the growing demand for artisanal woodworking crafts. - **Personalized Gadgets:** Growing trend of consumers wanting unique and customized gadgets, providing a market for personalized wooden cameras. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography:** Innovation opportunity for camera manufacturers to explore wooden camera designs for a niche market. - **Crafts:** Disruptive innovation potential for craft suppliers to provide materials for DIY wooden camera projects. - **Personalized Gifts:** Opportunity for businesses to offer personalized wooden cameras as unique and eco-friendly gifts. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Eco-Friendly Paper Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-camera.md) - [Stone Paper-Made Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-shoot.md) - [Functional Gingerbread Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-camera.md) - [Accessible 3D Wood Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digilab-3d20.md) - [Functional Building Block Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lego-zh1.md) - [Recycled Guitar Prototypes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cardboard-guitar-1.md) - [Minimalist Aluminum Analog Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mnl-mk1-analog-camera.md) - [Consumer-Grade 3D Wood Printers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shop-system-forust-edition.md) - [Tactile Digital Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camera-1.md)
