# Canine-Casting Seats The Wolf Within Chair is the Fairy Tale of the Furniture World By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wolf-within-chair References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/07/23/shady-seating/) & [duffylondon](http://www.duffylondon.com/product_d/Chairs-Sofas-C59/Wolf-Within-Shadow-Chair-P259.html) Given the theme of 'Little Red Cap' under the subject of a Brothers Grimm design exhibit, Chris Duffy came up with the Wolf Within Chair, as an adaptation of an existing piece. Many of his seating objects have been realized with an [illusory aesthetic quality](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zoom-chair), appearing as [floating sofas and stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sitter-chair) that are supported by their silhouettes. This Shadow Chair is different from Duffy London's others because it features the ebony outline of a feral dog, rather than the rectilinear geometries of the piece of furniture itself. The two sole legs of the seat extend backwards as the limbs of the wolf, who is poised and howling at the moon above him. The image of the animal in the Wolf Within Chair is cut from black faux fur, with the base of the [powder-coated steel structure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poodle-armchair) hidden beneath it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Illusory Seating Objects:** Creating seating objects with an illusory aesthetic quality, such as floating sofas and stools, opens up opportunities for unique and captivating furniture designs. - **Animal-inspired Furniture:** Exploring furniture designs that incorporate animal motifs, like the Wolf Within Chair, can tap into consumers' fascination with nature and wildlife. - **Hidden Structural Elements:** Incorporating hidden structural elements, such as the powder-coated steel base hidden beneath the black faux fur in the Wolf Within Chair, allows for visually striking and unexpected designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can leverage illusory seating objects and animal-inspired designs to create unique and captivating pieces that stand out in the market. - **Art Exhibitions:** Incorporating furniture pieces like the Wolf Within Chair in art exhibitions, especially with themes like fairy tales or storytelling, adds an element of whimsy and creativity to the experience. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate illusory seating objects and hidden structural elements to create visually stunning and conversation-starting spaces for their clients. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Suspenseful Statement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edgeofyr.md) - [Shimmering Cantilevered Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2023-shadow-chair.md) - [Posh Pet-Friendly Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nomad-juno.md) - [Posh Pet-Friendly Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/quella-chair.md) - [Sheep Fleece Fiberglass-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/welsh-mountain-hembury-chair.md) - [Sprouting Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-chair-on-grass.md) - [Fantasy Sculptural Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chris-wolston.md) - [Moon-Inspired Modular Seating Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wigiwama.md) - [Posh Pet-Friendly Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-chair-design.md)
