# Stark Windowless Facades This Seaside House Blocks the View of the Ocean With Concrete Walls By Mary Van Puymbroeck | Published 2017-08-15 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/windowless-facade References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/08/12/seaside-house-in-kanagawa-shinichi-ogawa-associates-architecture-cantilever-swimming-pool-japan/) & [shinichiogawa](http://shinichiogawa.com/) This [seaside house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-a) in Kanagawa, Japan has been designed with a windowless facade. Its street facing facade consists of three concrete blocks with an a palm tree acting as the focal point. Parking is concealed by a solid gate and the structure has no apparent openings when viewed from the street. From the ocean side of the house, there is a terrace, infinity pool and wall of sliding glass, bringing a [minimalist theme](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa) to life. The interior staircase is voluminous and twisting as it dominates the space. Additionally, the rooms inside are arranged in a linear pattern so each space is able to equally capitalize on the full length glass windows, while a terrace hangs over top of a working railway for added isual interest. While the windowless facade of this home is quite the striking feature, as one explores more nuances of the property, the space comes alive with a looming intensity. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 92% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Architecture:** Designing windowless facades and linear patterns for a minimalist aesthetic. - **Concealed Openings:** Creating buildings with no apparent openings for a unique and mysterious appeal. - **Integrating Nature:** Using natural elements such as palm trees and infinity pools to enhance the overall design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Opportunities to explore unconventional designs and create visually striking structures. - **Real Estate:** Meeting the demand for unique and captivating properties that stand out from the traditional offerings. - **Interior Design:** Creating innovative interior spaces that complement the windowless facade and minimalist theme. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Angled Concrete Forest Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/block-wall-house.md) - [Concrete Block-Formed Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blockwall-house.md) - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md) - [Raw Concrete Industrial Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-nishizaki.md) - [Hidden Resort Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stealth-1.md) - [Wooden Louvre Secluded Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-aoyama.md) - [Coastal Island Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasparakisfriel.md) - [Discrete Lakeside Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palissade.md) - [Boxy Shaped Beach Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roman-izquierdo-bouldstridge.md)
