# Stained Glass-Inspired Seating The Window Chair and Couch is Traditionally Modern By Meghan Young | Published 2012-09-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/window-chair-and-couch References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/window-chair-and-couch-by-mars-designstudio/) & [tentlondon](http://www.tentlondon.co.uk/) The Window Chair and Couch is inspired by the stained glass windows present in historical buildings, most commonly churches and cathedrals. Instead of incorporating actual stained glass in its design, however, the seats simply recalls this ancient artform through an artistically executed woven pattern. Used for the backrest, this pattern is also reminiscent of a hammock, which will instantly put people at ease. Designed by [Mars Designstudio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/assistive-mobility-technologies), the Window Chair and Couch was presented at Tent London this month. Quite minimalist aside from its [colorful, textured back rest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stedelijk-chair), the seating does sport a unique silhouette. The pristine white and cream chairs both boast high back supports with [rounded metal legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monk-armchair). It also provides privacy above and to the sides while allowing people to peak out from the back. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.7/10 - Popularity: 34% | Activity: 8% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Stained Glass-inspired Design:** Creating products that incorporate the aesthetic and patterns of stained glass, providing a modern twist on a traditional artform. - **Minimalist Seating:** Designing seating options that prioritize simplicity and clean lines while still offering comfort and unique silhouettes. - **Artistic Woven Patterns:** Using woven patterns in furniture design to create visually interesting and textured surfaces. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Opportunity in the furniture industry to create innovative seating designs that blend traditional and modern elements. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation potential in home decor industry by incorporating stained glass-inspired designs into various products, such as pillows, curtains, and wall art. - **Hospitality:** Creating unique seating options for hotels, restaurants, and event spaces that provide a visually striking experience for guests through the use of stained glass-inspired patterns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wellbeing-Harnessing Fan-Like Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shanti-chair.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Intricately Woven Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-designs.md) - [Wavy Lounge Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-lounge-chair.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [Vibrant '90s-Inspired Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holloway-li.md) - [Music-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-chair1.md)
