# Luminous Beachtography Photographer Will Ho Took These Glowing Beach Shots on Vacation By Lacey-Jane Walsh | Published 2014-01-18 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/will-ho References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/01/bioluminescent-beach-maldives/) & [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/78546112@N00/) Photographer Will Ho recently stumbled upon a beach covered in bioluminescent phytoplankton while vacationing in the Maldives Islands. Essentially [bioluminescent phytoplankton glows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-in-the-dark-water-bottle) the way that fireflies do. These shots feature millions of twinkling blue dots spread out across a [beautiful stretch of beach](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/realtime-beach-review) at night. These magical midnight captures show travelers a side of nature that they've likely never seen before. It appears as though these [neon specks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fluorescence) washed up on shore with the tide, creating a sort of luminous oasis on the beachside. As some of these shots show, stepping in these shimmering blue dots transforms footsteps into LED-style markings, which is pretty cool. Will Ho's whimsical beach photography series is hypnotically beautiful. Bioluminescent phytoplankton lights a path for vacation goers who are looking to take a midnight stroll in this enchanting series. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/photography) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Bioluminescent Phytoplankton:** Opportunity for businesses to develop products or services that enhance the experience of observing bioluminescent phytoplankton in natural environments. - **Magical Nighttime Photography:** Potential for innovative camera technologies and accessories that allow photographers to capture the mesmerizing beauty of nighttime scenes with bioluminescent elements. - **Nature-inspired Travel Experiences:** Opportunity for travel agencies and tour operators to offer unique trips and excursions focused on experiencing natural phenomena like bioluminescent phytoplankton. ### Who This Affects Most - **Tourism:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for tourism companies to create specialized beach tours and excursions that showcase bioluminescent phytoplankton. - **Photography:** Opportunity for camera manufacturers and accessories companies to develop equipment specifically designed for capturing the enchanting beauty of bioluminescent scenes. - **Outdoor Apparel:** Potential for outdoor clothing brands to incorporate luminescent elements and materials that enhance the visual experience of observing nocturnal natural phenomena. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Indoor Gardening Glowing Petunias](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/firefly-petunia.md) - [Glow-in-the-Dark Sushi Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-in-the-dark-sushi-bar.md) - [Orb Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mangrove-island.md) - [Glowing Water Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glowyld-collection.md) - [Ocean-Inspired Watch Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hidden-glow.md) - [Floating LED Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poof-light.md) - [Sculptural Biomaterial Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wevolve-labs.md) - [Algae-Based Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chandeliers-sconces.md) - [Biophilic Garden Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-organism-lights.md)
