# WiFi Washbaskets The iBasket From Electrolux By Yolanda Solo | Published 2008-08-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wifi-washbaskets-the-ibasket-from-electrolux References: [bornrich.org](http://www.bornrich.org/entry/ibasket-chic-automated-washing-machine-of-the-future/) & [newsroom.electrolux](http://newsroom.electrolux.com/2008/08/18/electrolux-announces-design-lab-finalists/) The **iBasket** has a double life as a [laundry basket and washing machine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laundry-system). The device starts automatically once full to clean and dry your laundry, then finally sends a message to your computer to tell you it is done. Guopeng Liang, who designed it, has managed to get his little tub into the final nine of the **[Electrolux](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electrolux-laundry-robot) Design Lab ’08** competition. The competition spec was to design future home appliances for the 'internet generation', which might be viable in as little as 2-3 years time. While the iBasket sounds like a fantastic idea for those of us who seem to be forever fighting mountains of laundry, at the moment, it can only hold 3-5 kg or three t-shirts and two trousers. There is also mention of an [air-refresh system to remove odors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rewear-chair) -- but where does the washing powder go? And would the machine wait for you to put it in before starting automatically? I suspect that it is actually more of a clothes 'freshener' than a washing machine - but that still works for me and for the environment. Not all clothes need to be put through a two hour wash cycle, which is just what the iBasket offers: a quick freshening up of your clothes. However, if Electrolux could develop the idea further, make it bigger to take more clothes, and confirm it can do a thorough wash rather than just a quick rinse, you could have one for every member of the household. Dirty clothes need never leave the bedroom again. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 34% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Automatic Laundry:** The iBasket has the potential to disrupt the laundry industry by automating the washing and drying process in one convenient device. - **Smart Home Appliances:** The iBasket is an example of a smart home appliance that could pave the way for other internet-connected household devices. - **Eco-friendly Laundry:** The iBasket's air-refresh system present an opportunity to disrupt the laundry industry by providing a more eco-friendly option for refreshing clothes. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Appliance:** The iBasket is an example of a new generation of home appliances that integrates internet connectivity and automation in innovative ways. - **Laundry:** The iBasket could disrupt the traditional laundry industry by providing an all-in-one washing and drying solution that saves time and energy. - **Smart Home:** The iBasket is a smart home device that could lead to the development of more internet-connected household appliances that simplify daily tasks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Portable Ultrasonic Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-washing-machine-concept.md) - [Compact Washer-Dryer Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washerdryer-robot.md) - [Miniature Portable Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-mini-washing-machine.md) - [Two-in-One Laundry Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-laundry-solution.md) - [Ultra-Modern Toy-Like Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toshin-machine.md) - [Free Standing Laundry Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eeva.md) - [Portable Mini Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gsoak.md) - [Sleek Smart Laundry Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laundry-system.md) - [Bedroom-Sized Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-drum-washing-machine.md)
