# Eccentrically Shaped Furniture whyrHymer Furniture Creates Quirky Handcrafted Pieces By Meghan Young | Published 2011-04-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whyrhymer-furniture References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/whyrhymer/) & [whyrhymer](http://www.whyrhymer.com/) As much as people appreciate and own [minimalist pieces of furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hmli), there are those of us who want to express our individuality and tastes -- that's where the whyrHymer furniture factors in. An industrial design company, whyrHymer offers unique [chairs, tables, lighting and beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bedroom-furniture) that are full of character and personality. Founded by LA-based designer and maker Brandon Morrison, whyrHymer offers furniture that is all [handcrafted](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodcarving-heritage). That special touch gives each piece some added detail that is often missing from mass-produced furniture. There seems to be influences from Asia, arts and crafts and mid-century modernity in each of the whyrHymer furniture pieces. What I especially appreciate, however, is how whyrHymer furniture donates 3 percent of each sale to a charity. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Individualistic Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore customization options and personalization to meet the growing demand for unique and expressive furniture pieces. - **Handcrafted Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop technologies and processes to scale up handcrafted furniture production, maintaining the authenticity and attention to detail that consumers desire. - **Sustainable Artisanal Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate sustainable materials and practices into artisanal furniture production, catering to eco-conscious consumers' desire for unique and environmentally friendly pieces. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate eccentrically shaped furniture designs into interior design concepts to create visually striking and unconventional living spaces. - **E-commerce:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop online platforms that allow customers to customize and order individualistic furniture pieces from various designers and artisans, providing a wider range of options for consumers. - **Charitable Organizations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Foster partnerships with furniture companies that donate a percentage of sales to charities, creating unique marketing collaborations and contributing to social causes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Extravagant Handcrafted Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/handcrafted-furniture.md) - [Tailor-Made Furniture Ranges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aesthetics-and-functionality.md) - [Chic Norm-Challenging Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wiggle-collection.md) - [Vibrant Upholstered Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upholstered-furniture1.md) - [Interdependency-Inspired Designer Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hilo.md) - [Modern Curvy Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curvy-furniture-design.md) - [Striking Wood Furniture Silhouettes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/irish-furniture-design.md) - [Explorative Material Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yucca-stuff.md) - [Elegantly Crafted Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/keyhole-collection.md)
