Buttress created this floating orb from 3,115 [hand-blown glass lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polaris) lit by fiber optic cables to create a stunning glowing effect. The white dandelion sculpture titled 'Lucent' currently resides in the lobby of the John Hancock Center in Chicago, and is suspended over a [black reflective pool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sabine-marcelis-1) that adds to the piece's remarkable visual element. Besides resembling the white seeds of a dandelion, this magnificent art piece is also meant to mimic the stars in the universe. Buttress worked with astrophysicist Dr. Daniel Bayliss to help ensure a spatial accuracy in his piece, and the number of glass tipped orbs actually reflects the number of stars visible from the earth's Northern hemisphere. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 19% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Glass Art Installations:** Creating large-scale glass art installations using innovative lighting techniques and spatial accuracy to create visually stunning effects. - **Nature-inspired Sculptures:** Designing sculptures that mimic elements of nature, such as a dandelion, to create visually striking and awe-inspiring art pieces. - **Collaborations Between Artists and Scientists:** Partnering with scientists to incorporate scientific principles and accuracy into art installations, resulting in unique and scientifically accurate visual experiences. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Design:** The art and design industry can embrace the use of glass and innovative lighting techniques to create immersive and visually stunning art installations. - **Architecture and Interior Design:** Architects and interior designers can incorporate nature-inspired sculptures, such as dandelions, into their designs to create visually striking and unique spaces. - **Science and Technology:** Collaborations between artists and scientists can lead to the development of new technologies and techniques for creating visually accurate art installations based on scientific principles. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plant-Inspired Dynamic Chandeliers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blossom-chandelier.md) - [Blooming Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bloome.md) - [Artful Garden Inflatable Spheres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/this-is-air.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md) - [Reflective Public Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowers-and-butterflies-are-dancing.md) - [Stunningly Intricate Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light.md) - [Luminous Park Domes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/osmanthus-moon.md) - [Outdoor Light-Up Globes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moongarden.md) - [Suspended Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suspended-lighting-installation.md)
