# Handcart-Inspired Furniture The Wheelbarrow Chair by Karl Sanford is for Contemporary Country Folk By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelbarrow-chair References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/wheelbarrow-chair-by-karl-sanford/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/48007871/wheelbarrow-chair) At first the Wheelbarrow Chair will simply look like an oddly shaped piece of furniture. At least to those city folk who aren't surrounded by such equipment very often. But once a person visualizes the Wheelbarrow Chair at a different angle, it will become immediately evident that it was inspired by a [handcart](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collapsible-cart). While this may not be the first chair to be modeled after a wheelbarrow, it does have a modern aesthetic going for it. Designed by Karl Sanford, the Wheelbarrow Chair not only boasts a bright color, it also features a stunning [wooden base](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pere-chair). Made out of wood, the legs are held together with [crossed steel bracing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dgc-1). With the exposed nuts and bolts, the Wheelbarrow Chair is subtly industrial. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Furniture Inspired by Tools:** Designing furniture with inspiration from functional tools can create unique and visually striking pieces. - **Modern Industrial Aesthetics:** Incorporating industrial elements into furniture design can result in contemporary and edgy pieces. - **Rustic Contemporary Fusion:** Blending rustic and modern design elements can create furniture with a unique and eclectic style. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** The furniture design industry can explore innovative concepts by drawing inspiration from unexpected sources such as tools and equipment. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can offer customers furniture options with a modern industrial aesthetic to cater to their design preferences. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can experiment with combining rustic and contemporary styles to create visually interesting and personalized spaces for their clients. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fishing-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/akos-huber.md) - [Dual-Purpose Camping Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-a.md) - [Ultra-Precise Woven Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-chair-design.md) - [Quirky Postmodern Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ebba-armchair.md) - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Vintage-Inspired Barstools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inheritance-barstool.md) - [Unexpected Boundary-Pushing Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair.md) - [Historic Dynamic Cane Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charu-chair.md) - [Music-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-chair1.md)
