# Rocking Chair Toboggans The Wendell 'Castle Rockin' Exhibition Combines Art and Function By Meghan Young | Published 2010-05-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wendell-castle-rockin References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2010/05/20/wendell-castle-rockin-at-the-barry-friedman-gallery/) & [barryfriedmanltd](http://www.barryfriedmanltd.com/) I have never seen so many unique chairs in one spot before, and the Wendell 'Castle Rockin' exhibition is showcasing twelve of them. What seems more like an art exhibit than an industrial design one, each seat could be mistaken for a sculpture rather than a practical piece of furniture. The Wendell 'Castle Rockin' exhibition is currently being shown at the Barry Friedman Gallery. Their organic, wooden chairs reinvent the idea of what a seat should be. I would love to showcase a couple of pieces in my future home. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.0/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 36% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Organic Wooden Chairs:** Create chairs made from organic, wooden materials that can be mistaken for sculptures, reinventing the concept of seating. - **Artistic Furniture Exhibitions:** Combine art and design in furniture exhibitions, blurring the line between practical furniture and artistic sculptures. - **Unique and Sculptural Seating:** Design chairs that are unique, sculptural, and functional, transforming the perception of traditional seating. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Incorporate organic, wooden materials into furniture designs to create unique and sculptural seating options. - **Art Galleries:** Partner with furniture designers to host artistic furniture exhibitions that showcase the intersection of art and functionality. - **Interior Design:** Incorporate organic, sculptural seating options into interior designs, adding a touch of artistry and uniqueness to spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Motion Blur-Inspired Rocking Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fast-rocking-chair.md) - [Dynamic Joint Furniture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/please-sit-for-the-alternate-ending.md) - [Dynamic Movement Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wobbl-rocking-chair.md) - [Waste-Incorporated Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-chairs.md) - [Spiritual Meditation Chair Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/12-chairs-for-meditation.md) - [Sizable Chair Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chair-installation.md) - [Dynamic Structural Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldont-chair.md) - [Modernized Rocking Chair Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nodding-chair.md) - [19th-Century-Inspired Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scottish-designers.md)
