# Cave-Like Planters The Wellspring by Martin Azua is a Self-Contained Ecosystem By Meghan Young | Published 2013-05-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wellspring-by-martin-azua References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/05/20/wellspring-by-martin-azua-2/) & [martinazua](http://www.martinazua.com/) Cozy and cavelike, the [Wellspring](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/color-trend-report) by Martin Azua, a designer based in Barcelona, Spain, is a planter that simulates a natural environment in a stylish and manageable way. In place of [typical plastic or terracotta pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tilt-planter), it boasts a spherical shape with a gaping mouth in the front and a smaller opening at the top. The mouth offers a beautiful and intimate view of the plants inside while the top opening provides it with light as well as a convenient place to water. What makes the Wellspring by Martin Azua particularly special is the way a person waters the plants. It comes with a small terracota dish that is meant to be placed beneath it to collect the dripping dew that runs off of its surface. That liquid is then drizzled on the plant. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 21% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Natural-inspired Planters:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop planters that simulate natural environments to create a more immersive gardening experience. - **Sustainable Plant Watering:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design planters that collect and reuse water to promote sustainable and efficient plant maintenance. - **Cozy Garden Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create planters that enhance the aesthetic appeal of indoor and outdoor spaces, providing a cozy and pleasing environment. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Gardening and Landscaping:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce new materials and designs to revolutionize the gardening and landscaping industry. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate planters with unique designs into home decor products to offer consumers stylish and functional options. - **Sustainable Living:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Merge planters with sustainable living solutions to promote eco-friendly practices and bring nature indoors. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Watering Compact Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patella-crescenda.md) - [Uniquely Shaped Self-Watering Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/self-watering-plant-house.md) - [Futuristic Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-klaustrafloria.md) - [Smart Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tendril-1.md) - [Self-Watering Desk Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/posha.md) - [Self-Watering Plant Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vivo-pot.md) - [Self-Watering Smart Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod.md) - [Chic Self-Watering Garden Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glowpear-mini-bench.md) - [Aeroponic Desktop Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/izestee.md)
