# Quirky Fluorescent Cat Sculptures The Feline Staring Contest Light By TechnoGadget | Published 2008-09-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weird-staring-at-cat-staring-at-cat-staring References: [coolest-gadgets](http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20080911/the-staring-at-cat-staring-at-cat-staring-light/#more-16814) & [stevebishop.org](http://www.stevebishop.org/staringatcats/staringatcats1.htm) Cats are creepy sometimes, especially when they give fierce and prolonged glares at something. It even gets freakier when the object they have their focus on is not visible to our naked eye. Using that as an inspiration, Steve Bishop was able to design a [sculpture/light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection) in the shape of a cat. The cat figure was created using [air-dry clay](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balloon-dog). As it appears, the two [cat figures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neko-yama) are set up staring at one another. Each cat’s gaze is permanently locked on the other cat, and the effect is amplified by having light as means of attaching the two of them towards each other. The sculpture is called “Staring at Cat Staring at Cat Staring.” Wordy, but appropriate. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 3% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Creepy Cat-inspired Sculptures:** Opportunity for artists and designers to create unique and unusual sculptures based on popular pet-like themes. - **Innovative Home Lighting:** Opportunity to create lighting fixtures that serve both as practical home lighting and as decorative pieces. - **Unconventional Home Decor:** Opportunity for interior designers to incorporate unusual and eye-catching decor pieces, such as cat sculptures, into their design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Industry professionals can create unique cat-inspired sculptures, decor pieces, and lighting fixtures for consumer purchase. - **Home Decor:** Industry professionals can incorporate unusual and eye-catching decor pieces like cat sculptures to their electronics collection - **Interior Design:** Interior professionals can add creepy cat-inspired sculptures and decor to their design services. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Adorable Cartoon Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightweight-and-adorable.md) - [Creature-Like Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pink-robots-won.md) - [Sculptural Feline Bottles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/javier-calleja-2.md) - [Humorous Cat Collectables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tired-cats-gachapon.md) - [Cityscape-Like Cat Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mocats.md) - [Minimalistic Feline-Inspired Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-silhouette-vase.md) - [Hybrid Feline-Friendly Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-cat-tower.md) - [Otherworldly Lighting Fixture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/otherworldly-lighting-fixture.md) - [Laser-Emitting Cat Collars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-collar.md)
