Despite her modest budget, Bilbao attempted to construct a house of ambitious size that optimized for the surrounding lake views. The home is constructed from [rammed earth walls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-catedral), a material that was chosen because it doesn't require extra finish or insulation. The material also influenced the home's shape and proportions. In specific, a geometric form would greatly enhance the structural strength of the walls, so Bilbao designed the floor plan as a series of interconnected squares. The bedrooms and bathrooms reside in a cube located at one end of the building. Meanwhile, the three other volumes are layered to ensure an open-plan living and dining area and access to two terraces. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Rammed Earth Construction:** Exploring the use of rammed earth walls as a sustainable and cost-effective building material for residential and commercial structures. - **Geometric Architecture:** Embracing the use of geometric forms and interconnected squares in building design to create visually striking and structurally strong spaces. - **Lakefront Living:** Creating residential properties with optimized views of lakeside landscapes, offering a unique and tranquil living experience. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Construction:** Innovating in the field of sustainable materials and architectural techniques to create eco-friendly and visually captivating structures. - **Interior Design:** Integrating geometric forms and open-plan living spaces to create functional and aesthetically pleasing interiors. - **Real Estate:** Developing lakefront properties that offer residents a serene and nature-focused lifestyle, incorporating innovative design elements for added appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Forested Hillside Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-ventura.md) - [Tree-Centered Cubic Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tonalli-house.md) - [Interior Courtyard Mexican Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-ll.md) - [Nature-Preserving Mexican Lake Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-santa-maria-del-oro.md) - [Dynamic Volume Hillside Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-shi.md) - [Landscape-Integrated Hill Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-av.md) - [High Concrete Walled Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cesar-mancillas.md) - [Burnt Orange Walled Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-magarola.md) - [Nature-Inspired Hilltop Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/las-rocas.md)
