In his 'Web Popularity Products' series, photographer Valerio Loi imagines "a future where social networks popularity will be sold on supermarkets shelves." The series shows bottles and cans that have been wrapped in labels promising instant followers, likes and "spreadable popularity." Although it is possible to purchase things like fake followers for social media online, it hasn't quite made it into the stores in product form—if only it was that easy.
Along with gaining instant popularity, the products promise other good things like boosts to self-esteem, increased self-worth and instant endorsements from your network on LinkedIn. With these products, it's amazing what a like or a retweet will do—in no time at all, you'll be feeling like a celebrity. Best of all, you'd hardly need to put in any work—thankfully, the future is not here just yet.
