# Ripple Effect Furnishings The Wave Table Has the Authentic Look of a Disturbed Liquid Surface By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-03-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-table References: [archidesignclub](http://www.archidesignclub.com/magazine/rubriques/design/45621) & [skatar](http://www.skatar.com/liquidsolid/wave-table---a-water-droplet-turned-into-a-sculpture/) The Wave Table does a convincing job of capturing the the look of delicate ripples occurring on a previously calm puddle or pond. It is as if a tiny pebble was dropped or a finger was poked, agitating the surface of the water ever so slightly. The outcome is a series of concentric circular undulations that seem to have been frozen in their fragile positions. Fredrik Skåtar used [transparent acrylic glass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/draga-aurel), sculpting it to emulate such a [ripple effect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection). The calm centers of the side table and the [coffee table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blur-coffee-table) offer flat surfaces that afford the safe placement of full teacups and drinking glasses; meanwhile, much of each tabletop is organically uneven so that the Wave Table becomes an enticingly tangible item that's still capable of holding all sorts of objects. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 77% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Organic Furniture Design:** There's an opportunity for furniture designers to incorporate more organic and fluid shapes in their designs using materials like transparent acrylic glass. - **Sculptural Furniture:** The use of sculptural techniques, like the ripple effect in acrylic, creates unique and visually captivating furniture pieces that stand out from traditional designs. - **Interactive Furniture:** The Wave Table's uneven surface invites interaction from users, indicating a trend towards more interactive furniture designs that engage with the user in a tactile way. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers can explore the use of innovative materials and techniques like acrylic glass sculpting to create unique and visually interesting furniture designs. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate sculptural furniture pieces like the Wave Table to create a visual focal point in a room and introduce organic elements to an existing design aesthetic. - **Hospitality Industry:** Hotel and restaurant owners can incorporate interactive furniture pieces like the Wave Table to enhance the customer experience and create an unforgettable and unique atmosphere. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Wave-Inspired Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seahorse-coffee-table.md) - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Water Ripples-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-ripples-chair.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Water Movement-Inspired Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripple-light.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Curvaceous Floating Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection-2.md) - [Tranquil Water-Inspired Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripple-apartment.md)
