# Undulating Wood Furniture The Wave Table Series by Merganzer Furniture is Sculpturally Calming By Meghan Young | Published 2013-02-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-table-series References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2013/02/03/wave-series-by-merganzer-furniture/) & [merganzer](http://www.merganzer.com/) The Wave Table Series inspires a calmness in living spaces due to its [undulating wooden base](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-furnitures). Strikingly sculptural, each table is surprisingly simple aside from their defining feature. The base is topped with a basic glass pane to finish off the design. Created by Merganzer Furniture, a studio based in Toronto, Canada, each piece in the Wave Table Series is crafted from a [single board of rough lumber](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/topographic-coffee-table). According to the designers, "The board is sawn into multiple pieces and reassembled before being carved by hand to create the undulating bases. Floating glass tops complement the [sculptural forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table) by allowing unobstructed views." Made to order, the Wave Table Series is available in custom sizes to fit any home and need perfectly. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 60% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Undulating Furniture:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry by incorporating undulating designs that inspire calmness in living spaces. - **Sculptural Table Bases:** The use of sculptural table bases can create visually striking pieces of furniture that stand out and add artistic value to any space. - **Single Board Craftsmanship:** Crafting furniture from a single board of rough lumber allows for a unique and sustainable approach to furniture design. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore incorporating undulating designs and sculptural table bases to offer innovative and visually appealing furniture options for customers. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can incorporate undulating furniture to create spaces that inspire calmness and add a unique visual element to their designs. - **Woodworking:** Woodworking companies can explore the use of single board craftsmanship to create sustainable and custom furniture pieces that cater to individual needs and preferences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Traditional Chinese-Inspired Wavy Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection.md) - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Wave-Inspired Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seahorse-coffee-table.md) - [Sculptural Timber Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barricane-tables.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md) - [Curvaceous Floating Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection-2.md) - [Coastline-Inspired Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marea-low-table.md) - [Asymmetrical Industrial Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mura-side-table.md)
