# Undulating Ledges Wave Shelves by Vishal Agale Present an Ocean of Orientation Possibilities By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-12-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-shelves-by-vishal-agale References: [vishalagale](http://vishalagale.com/21925/241694/gallery/wave) It's wonderful to see how designers play with the conventions of common household fittings to come up with concepts like these Wave Shelves, by Vishal Agale. Instead of conceiving a storage system that's reliant on levelness, rigidity and strict horizontality, the creative came up with much more fluid form. Fluid indeed, for this set of four identical ledges is literally inspired by the [undulating shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripple-light) of offshore breakers. The center third of the [wall-mounted board](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf) is molded flat to effectively support most household objects while the two flanking sides curve gracefully in opposite directions. The S-shape of the Wave Shelves by Vishal Agale offers abundant opportunities for [creative arrangement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puzzle-shelf). They can be tilted, stacked and assembled to cradle irregular items and secure possessions between them. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.5/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 16% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Fluid Storage:** Designers are exploring new storage concepts that move away from levelness and strict horizontality, presenting innovative opportunities for more fluid and dynamic arrangements. - **Undulating Design:** Inspiration from natural shapes like offshore breakers is leading to the creation of undulating furniture and fittings, offering unique and visually appealing options for home decor. - **Creative Arrangement:** The S-shape of the Wave Shelves allows for versatile and creative arrangements, empowering users to experiment with tilting, stacking, and securing irregular items between the shelves. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore incorporating undulating design elements into storage systems, offering customers more visually appealing and versatile options. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can leverage fluid storage concepts like the Wave Shelves to create unique and dynamic spaces that break away from traditional rigidity and levelness. - **Home Decor:** The home decor industry can embrace the trend of fluid storage and undulating design to offer customers innovative and eye-catching products for organizing and showcasing their possessions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Traditional Chinese-Inspired Wavy Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection.md) - [Curvaceous Floating Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection-2.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Modular Contemporary Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md)
