A [sculptural piece of furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables) that could easily be mistaken for an interactive art piece, it is made up of [thin strips of lacquered birch wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-furnitures). Each strip is carefully secured in a way that allows them to be moved at the whim of the user. Able to create a variety of shapes, the Wave Cabinet could easily be likened to a white surf. Designed by Sebastian Errazuriz, a designer based in New York, the Wave Cabinet is capable of opening up in a many different ways, often more dramatically than the first. Also made using steel and glass, there is something both digital and instrumental about the design. Not only does the Wave Cabinet look like digital art when splayed open, the pieces also look like tweaked ivory piano keys. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Modular Furniture Design:** The trend in modular furniture design creates opportunities for designers to create unique, customizable furniture that can adapt to different spaces and needs. - **Interactive Furniture:** The increasing prevalence of interactive furniture, like the Wave Cabinet, allows for the integration of technology and art in new and innovative ways. - **Sculptural Furniture:** The trend towards sculptural furniture not only redefines traditional furniture design, but also allows for experimentation and innovation in material usage and production methods. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunities for furniture designers to create unique and functional pieces with the integration of new materials and production methods emerge through the trend in modular and sculptural furniture design. - **Art and Technology:** The integration of art and technology through interactive furniture creates opportunities for artists and technologists to work together on new and innovative projects. - **Interior Design:** The trend in modular, interactive, and sculptural furniture design provides new options for interior designers to create dynamic and personalized living spaces for their clients. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Oceanic-Themed Playful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-cober.md) - [Curvaceous Floating Illusion Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-collection-2.md) - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Curvaceous Shelf-Paired Mirrors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wave-mirror.md) - [Tropical Island-Inspired Cabinets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weaver-cabinet.md) - [Playful Wavy Table Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-table-design.md) - [Nature-Inspired Mesmerizing Sideboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/genipadu-sideboard.md) - [Modular Configured Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabinet.md) - [Wavy Lounge Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wavy-lounge-chair.md)
