The first is that you can't always trust your eyes.; the second is that Paul Shanghai is a seriously talented artist who may or may not have sold his soul in order to create gorgeous works of art. These water drawings are so realistic that it bears repeating that these are in fact drawings from pencil and not created using any digital means. The 'Water Dragon'for example was made using a [0.5 mechanical 4B pencil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-pencils) and took over 60 hours to complete. Water is able to create life. Interestingly enough, it would appear that Paul Shanghai is able to [create water](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aqua-gallery). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 58% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Modern](https://www.trendhunter.com/modern) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Realistic Liquid Drawings:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop digital tools or software that can replicate the realistic effect of liquid drawings. - **Hyper-realistic Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore techniques and mediums to create hyper-realistic artwork, blurring the boundaries between reality and art. - **Artistic Illusions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine traditional artistic techniques with optical illusions to create visually stunning and mind-bending artwork. ### Where This Applies - **Fine Arts:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce new techniques and mediums in the field of fine arts, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. - **Digital Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced digital tools and software that can simulate the intricacies and realism of traditional art forms, attracting new artists and audiences. - **Entertainment:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate hyper-realistic artwork and illusions in various forms of entertainment, enhancing visual experiences and captivating audiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Mesmerizing Fluid Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-fountain.md) - [AI Line Drawing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencilify-ai.md) - [Water Flow-Inspired Art Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nanhai-arts-center.md) - [Unique Writing Instruments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/graphite-paintbrush-writing-instrument.md) - [Fluid Basketball-Net Art Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/swimming-pools-and-bubblegum.md) - [Water-Covered Speaker Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shaped-by-water.md) - [Illusion-Inspired Design Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection.md)
