# Bare-Boned Day Beds Watching the Ships Roll In by Marie Dessuant Has Romantic Undertones By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-12 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watching-the-ships-roll-in References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/watching-the-ships-roll-in-by-marie-dessuant-for-singularite/) & [singularite-editions](http://singularite-editions.com/designers/marie-dessuant/watching-the-ships-roll-in/) The Watching the Ships Roll In may be described as a [sofa or a bench](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poet-sofa), but it also happens to look like a bare-boned day bed. From the [removable cushions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perron-pillo) to its asymmetrical design, it gives the [day bed a contemporary cot-like look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eclipse-capsule). Although the overall design might be simple, the name suggests a romantic undertone, one that involves a person sitting down while taking in the vast ocean. Designed by Marie Dessuant for Singularité, the Watching the Ships Roll In sofa/bench is made out of beech wood with a cotton canvas mattress and cushions. According to the Singularité website, it is "a contemporary and domestic interpretation of the deck chair." Only 30 pieces were produced. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.3/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 14% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Cot-like Designs:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the furniture industry by creating contemporary cot-like designs for day beds. - **Romantic Undertones:** Designing furniture with romantic undertones can offer disruptive innovation opportunities in the home decor industry. - **Asymmetrical Furniture Design:** Exploring asymmetrical designs in furniture can lead to disruptive innovation in the interior design industry. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can explore disruptive innovation by incorporating contemporary cot-like designs in day beds. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation in the home decor industry can be achieved by incorporating romantic undertones into furniture designs. - **Interior Design:** Asymmetrical furniture designs present an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the interior design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Stylishly Modern Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-daybed.md) - [Minimal Stone Day Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lattice-day-bed.md) - [Artful Four-Poster Bed Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/day-bed-installation.md) - [Scandinavian-Inspired Floating Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poolsofa.md) - [Sail-Inspired Majestic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vela-sofa.md) - [Squishy Clay-Made Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soft-soil-daybed.md) - [Wooden Structural Outdoor Bedes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hut-lounge-bed.md) - [Chic Curved Bed Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bedroom-furniture.md) - [Compact Pillowy Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sander-series.md)
