# Toilet Lid Sinks Wash Up With Toilet Water By Elsa Blaine | Published 2008-05-19 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wash-up-with-toilet-water-toilet-lid-sink References: [greenupgrader](http://greenupgrader.com/) & [gaiam](http://www.gaiam.com/product/eco-home-outdoor/bathroom/accessories/toilet+lid+sink.do?product_id=02-0334) Now that you are totally disgusted, let me make clear how this ingenious [water saving idea](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alu) works. When you flush the toilet, clean water held in the reservoir tank replaces the water in the toilet basin, as the waste is carried down the drain to the sewer. The water in the reservoir tank is then replaced with fresh clean water from the pipes coming into your house. The water you drink, shower or do laundry with comes from these same pipes. So...still with me...the Toilet Sink Lid just diverts that clean water up through the attached faucet so you can [wash your hands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faucet-filter) before it goes into the reservoir tank. It even has a built in soap dish folks! Best of all it's not a concept design; the [Toilet Lid Sink](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-toilets) is available from Gaiam for about $90. It is made of, “porcelain-like white plastic replaces your existing tank top and adjusts to fit standard toilets up to 8.5in wide and 18-22in long,” according to Gaiam. This is actually an affordable way for us all to save water... are we ready for it? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 29% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Water-saving Toilets:** The Toilet Lid Sink is just one example of innovation opportunities in the water-saving toilet industry, with potential for further development and improvements. - **Sustainable Home Products:** Toilet Lid Sink proves that eco-friendly innovative products can provide convenience, cost-effectiveness and sustainability for households, paving the way for similar products in this industry. - **Smart Plumbing Systems:** Toilet Lid Sinks, like other products in smart plumbing systems, are changing traditional restroom utilities into practical and water-efficient solutions for a greener future. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Bathroom Fixtures:** The Toilet Lid Sink exemplifies innovation in the bathroom fixtures industry, specifically for water-efficient and eco-friendly products. - **Home Improvement:** Home improvement companies can embrace Toilet Lid Sink-inspired innovation opportunities to develop products that combine sustainability with functionality and cost-effectiveness for households. - **Plumbing and Water Management:** Toilet Lid Sink can prompt companies in the plumbing and water management industry to develop innovative solutions, particularly in water conservation and management, to address the need for sustainable technologies. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Water-Saving Bathroom Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bergvattnet.md) - [Sustainable Sand-Filled Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandi-toilet.md) - [Powerful Vortex Toilet Bowls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twistflush-toilet.md) - [Hygienic Handsfree Toilet Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toilet-lid-closer.md) - [Outdoor Water Sink Stations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waterworks.md) - [Reinventive Modern Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen.md) - [Feature-Packed Smart Toilets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neolet.md) - [Smart Toilet Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-toilets.md) - [Closed-Loop Bathing Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upfall-shower.md)
