# Blubbery Tusked Benches The Walrus Chair by Maximo Riera is Seal-Inspired Seating By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-08-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/walrus-chair-by-maximo-riera References: [whitezine](http://www.whitezine.com/en/design/rihno-walrus-chair.html) & [maximoriera](http://www.maximoriera.com/html/projects.php?pid=2) The same marine mammal that you admire at the aquarium for its unbelievably robust constitution has been made into the [cushy Walrus Chair](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko) by Maximo Riera. I could hardly imagine kicking back into something more comfortable than this fatty piece of furniture. The Spanish artist has so far unveiled an [Octopus](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maximo-riera-octopus-chair) and a [Rhino](http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhino-chair) within his collection of unusual sculpted seating, throughout which he renders remarkably realistic animals merged with modern sitting cushions. At risk of looking kitsch, this concept has been well composed with a polished black ebony color scheme and careful craftsmanship for an overall elegant appearance. There are few opportunities in life to lounge on the back of the tremendous tusked Odobenidus, so the incredible Walrus Chair by Maximo Riera is quite the catch. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 68% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sculpted Seating:** Maximo Riera's collection of sculpted seating merges realistic animal designs with modern sitting cushions, offering a unique and eye-catching furniture option. - **Animal-inspired Furniture:** Maximo Riera's Walrus Chair, along with his other pieces like the Octopus Chair and Rhino Chair, showcases the trend of furniture designs inspired by animals, bringing a touch of nature indoors. - **Unconventional Comfort:** The Walrus Chair by Maximo Riera offers a comfortable and unconventional seating option, allowing individuals to relax and lounge in a unique and memorable way. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** The sculpted seating trend created by Maximo Riera presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for the furniture design industry, encouraging the creation of unconventional and visually striking furniture pieces. - **Interior Design:** The animal-inspired furniture trend exemplified by Maximo Riera's collection offers an opportunity for interior designers to incorporate bold and nature-inspired pieces into their projects, creating visually captivating spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** Maximo Riera's sculpted seating collection, including the Walrus Chair, blurs the lines between art and furniture, providing an opportunity for artists and sculptors to explore the integration of functional design with artistic expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sea Creature-Inspired Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seat-urchin.md) - [Smart Bulbous Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buffo.md) - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Anatomical Lounge Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/himalaya-pelvis-chair.md) - [Chunky Cylindrical Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/umi-armchair.md) - [Cozy Oversized Cushion Armchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/perron-pillo-lounge-chair.md) - [Cozy Contemporary Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun.md) - [Soothing Boat-Like Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canoa-chair.md) - [Fuzzy Modern Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fuzzy-modern-chair.md)
