# Drill-Powered Walking Aids This Walking Machine Looks like a Mechanical Mystical Centaur By Ady Floyd | Published 2015-07-17 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/walking-machine References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/word-on-the-water-bookstore?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds) American inventor Izzy Swan has created this unique walking machine that is powered by a drill. The walking machine looks like a mechanical centaur from a futuristic alternate universe. Izzy Swan designed this [walking aid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zeal-lifestyle-walker) so that a person can stand on a platform that is supported by a wheel. Behind this platform is the [robotic legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheeled-robotic-aid) that move like a centaur's hind legs would, but this machine uses a drill to provide power. The [mechanical looking legs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod) are made of wood and it can support up to 370 pounds of weight. This unique transportation device is powered by an average 20-volt drill. The drill spins a wheel that in turn makes the legs project forward. It works in a similar way to a bicycle, but of course this drill-powered machine eliminates the manpower. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.4/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 59% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Drill-powered Walking Aids:** Opportunity for innovative mobility solutions that integrate drill-powered technology. - **Mechanical Centaur-inspired Designs:** Opportunity for novel designs that combine mechanical and organic elements, drawing inspiration from mythical creatures. - **Drill-power Alternatives for Transportation:** Opportunity for developing alternative modes of transportation that harness drill power for increased efficiency and convenience. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Mobility Products and Devices:** Opportunity for manufacturers to create drill-powered walking aids for individuals with limited mobility. - **Design and Innovation:** Opportunity for designers to explore mechanical centaur-inspired designs for various applications beyond just walking aids. - **Transportation and Automotive:** Opportunity for automobile manufacturers to explore drill-powered alternatives for transportation, potentially reducing reliance on fossil fuels. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Connected Walking Support Canes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stride-senze.md) - [Diminutive Bipedal Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bipedal-robots.md) - [Lightweight Gliding Walker Boosters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moonwalkers-aero.md) - [Adaptive Walking Aids](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roami.md) - [Minimalist Wooden Desk Treadmills](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-walker.md) - [Motor-Powered Diwheels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diy-diwheel.md) - [Ultra-Fast Walking Shoes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shift-robotics-moonwalkers.md) - [Hybrid Movement Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leo-robot.md) - [Robotic Brace Walking Shoes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nike-project-amplify.md)
