These Wala Lang illustrations are extremely adorable for those who quickly glance at them. The youthful [anime-looking girls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/geeks-rule-hellsing) of each image sport doe eyes and pixie-like noses and mouths and are simply the definition of cute. It isn’t until viewers realize that the females in this [black and white series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/junji-ito-artwork) are actually wounded by arrows that the images take on a far more complex and dark connotation to them.

Though most aren’t mortally wounded, the girls in these Wala Lang renderings indeed have their flesh pierced by [sharp arrows, which draw blood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-into-darkness) from every single victim. The hardest images to look at are the ones in which Lang has the arrows penetrating the torso of her subjects. The heart-shaped ends of the arrows would suggest they were launched using Cupid’s bow.
