# Eco-Retro Retro VW Camper Goes Green By Alex Covert | Published 2008-01-10 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vw-westfalia-eco-retro References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2008/01/8849.html) & [verdier](http://www.verdier.ca/) Still in draft-phase, the famous VW Westfalia Camper Van has been redesigned to bring it even more environmental street-cred. [Alexandre Verdier](http://www.verdier.ca) envisions an "intelligent" vehicle with solar panels to power its on board accessories. A computer and GPS-system will position the panels to maximize their solar-intake. A kitchen will swivel, allowing for meal prep inside or out. Green the groovy way won't be cheap though - expect to pay around $69,000USD. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 92% | Activity: 98% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Green Vehicles:** Designing vehicles with eco-friendly features such as solar panels. - **Intelligent Vehicles:** Incorporating computer systems and GPS to enhance vehicle functionality. - **Convertible Spaces:** Creating adaptable interiors that can be used for different purposes. ### Where This Applies - **Automotive Industry:** Opportunity for automobile manufacturers to develop and promote green vehicles. - **Technology Industry:** Technological advancements in vehicle systems and GPS integration. - **Hospitality Industry:** Catering to the growing demand for versatile and functional travel accommodations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [App-Connected Campervans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-campervan.md) - [Compact Electric Campers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-camper.md) - [All-Electric Camper Van Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alpincamper.md) - [Emissions-Free Camper Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/renault-hippie-caviar-motel.md) - [Dynamic Couture Campers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-california-camper.md) - [Transforming Off-Grid Camper Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vanspeed-evergreen-dream-2.md) - [Electric Mini Camper Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2cv.md) - [All-Electric Camper Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/winnebago-erv.md) - [Emissions-Free Camper Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ford-transit-phev-eco-evolution.md)
