# Is VW Concept Apple's Mystery Car? Space Up! Blue Could Be Apple iCar By Bianca | Published 2007-11-17 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vw-concept-apple-car-space-up-blue-icar References: [blog.wired](http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2007/11/vws-space-up-bl.html) A few months ago, we posted an article on a rumored iCar coming into production as a collaborative project between [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-ava-concept) and VW. After seeing the VW Space Up! Blue concept car at the LA Auto Show this week, and after reading speculations from others, I'm starting to think this could be the high-buzz mystery car. The major contributor sparking the rumor fire was the touch-screen surfaces found in the vehicle. "The touch screen on the car is supposed to use proximity sensors that react to hand gestures like the [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-icar-concept), the only difference being that in this one, you're not limited to only touching the screen," [Wired Blog](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/visionary-art-challenge) reported. "You can also touch a menu feature that allows you to place your hands near the display and still move the icons on the screen, like magic. That's trippy." Check out the VW featured in my LA Auto Show highlights as well as the original post on the iCar. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 42% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Touch-screen Surfaces:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include the development of advanced touch-screen interactions for various industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, and smart home technology. - **Proximity Sensors:** Disruptive innovation opportunities arise in industries like automotive, robotics, and virtual/augmented reality with the integration of proximity sensors for enhanced user interactions and control. - **Collaborative Projects:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in fostering more collaborative projects between technology companies and traditional industries like automotive to create groundbreaking solutions that combine the best of both worlds. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Automotive:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the automotive industry can arise from the integration of advanced touch-screen surfaces and proximity sensors in vehicles, enhancing user experiences and control. - **Consumer Electronics:** Disruptive innovation opportunities exist in the consumer electronics industry with the development of touch-screen surfaces that enable intuitive, gesture-based interactions for smartphones, tablets, and other devices. - **Smart Home Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in the smart home technology industry emerge with the incorporation of touch-screen surfaces and proximity sensors in home automation systems, enabling seamless control and personalized experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculpted Tech Brand Supercars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-icar-concept.md) - [Tech Brand Sedan Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-ava-concept.md) - [360-Degree Maneuverable Car Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rotating-twoseater-pod.md) - [Shapeshifting Interior Electric Vehicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-gentravel-concept.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-2.md) - [Sci-Fi Electric Vans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volkswagen-van.md) - [Color-Changing Concept Cars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bmw-i-vision-dee.md) - [Tech Brand Tractor Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-tractor-pro.md) - [Production-Ready Robotic Taxis](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/id-buzz-ad.md)
