# Anticipatory Architectural Homes The Vulcan House in Perth Has a Sensible Design Process By Amy Duong | Published 2024-06-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vulcan-house References: [design-milk](https://design-milk.com/the-vulcan-house-is-exemplary-of-anticipatory-architecture/) The team of interior designer Nickolas Gurtler, architect Dorian Morelli, landscape architect Tristan Peirce, and Formview Building work together on the Vulcan [House](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coastal-house). It is located in the [suburban area of Perth, Western Australia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clifton-house). It is a home to a family of four and all of the sections are thoughtfully formed. The visual space greets guests with concrete floors along the first and ground floors that serve as a base for [artful installations and custom light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/art-house). Gurtler explains, “The communal spaces are placed towards the front of the home to maximize the views whilst the children’s wing sits further back down a long corridor. This approach creates a very natural way in which occupants and their guests interact with the home. The basement level is more secluded, the ‘wine room’ accessed by a concrete staircase is designed for guests to be led down rather than explore naturally.” Image Credit: Nickolas Gurtler, Dorian Morelli, Tristan Peirce, and Formview Building. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 61% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 25% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Concrete-driven Aesthetics:** The use of concrete as both structural and aesthetic elements can redefine how modern homes blend durability with artistic design. - **Functional Zoning in Homes:** Strategically placing communal and private spaces can enhance natural interaction and elevates functional design within residential architecture. - **Custom Light Installations:** Integrating bespoke lighting solutions into home designs can create personalized atmospheres and artistic focal points. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architectural Design:** Innovative zoning and aesthetic materials can deliver new standards in residential architecture. - **Interior Design:** Custom lighting and thoughtful space utilization offer transformative potential for interior environments. - **Construction and Building:** Advanced construction techniques and material usage in home building can lead to more functional and visually appealing residential structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Brutalist Suburban Family Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/south-yarra-house.md) - [Temple-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/j-kidman-architecture.md) - [Monolithic Sleek Summer Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vollerup-atrium.md) - [Nature-Rooted Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md) - [Urban Layered Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/salmon-house.md) - [Garden-Connected Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-waverley-house.md) - [Contemporary Weatherized Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acute-house.md) - [Exposed Concrete Stealthy Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/villa-eternal-way.md)
