# Fluid Cantilevered Furniture Nuvist's Volna Table Looks Like a Large Slug By Meghan Young | Published 2012-01-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volna-table References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/12/23/space-table/) & [nuvist](http://www.nuvist.com/) There is a seamless, fluid quality to the Volna Table that gives it as much of an organic presence as it does a futuristic aesthetic. Both clean and contemporary, the table nevertheless looks like a [large slug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carpentopod) leading a life of servitude. Created by [Nuvist Architecture & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oreala-lamps), a studio based in Turkey, the Volna Table's unbroken, continuous form also gives it a whimsical touch as though it were crafted by magic. Although it would seem like the Volna Table would only fit into very modern and minimalist settings, it also adds an interesting detail to simple yet traditional living spaces. It is almost as if it is acting like a [sculptural art piece](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Fluid Design:** Exploring fluid and seamless designs creates a futuristic and organic aesthetic. - **Whimsical Furniture:** Adding a touch of whimsy to furniture design creates unique and magical pieces. - **Integration of Art:** Blurring the lines between furniture and sculpture creates functional art pieces. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** The furniture industry can innovate by incorporating fluid and seamless designs into their product lines. - **Interior Design:** The interior design industry can explore whimsical furniture to create unique and captivating spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** The art and sculpture industry can collaborate with furniture designers to create functional art pieces that blur traditional boundaries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Fluid Wooden Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loop-furnitures.md) - [Wavy Sculptural Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables.md) - [Shimmering Oceanic Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-table.md) - [Aquatic Creature-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nessie-side-table.md) - [Moveable Wave-Inspired Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/side-table-concept.md) - [Harmonious Helical Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vortex-coffee-table.md) - [Fabric-Like Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tablecloth-side-table.md) - [Geologically Fluid Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liquid-geology-table-collection.md) - [Cloud-Inspired Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cloud-tables1.md)
