# Spherical Floating Speakers The Vitruvio Speaker Was Inspired by a Renaissance Man By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-12 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vitruvio-speaker References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/this-floating-speaker-shows-you-soundwaves-as-it-plays-1575005496) & [bonagurogiorgio](http://www.bonagurogiorgio.com/2014/05/vitruvio-speaker.html) Giorgio Bonaguro and Juan Soriano Blanco were undoubtedly ambitious when they embarked on designing the Vitruvio speaker. The duo was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic Vitruvian Man drawing, which features a man spread-eagled across the page. Much in the same way, the Vitruvian speaker sprawls out towards the corners of the cube it’s suspended in. Situating the speaker within this [cubical frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nocs-braque) allows us to see the impact of sound. The [metal speaker](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acoustic-sculpture-speaker) is fixated onto the cube corners by rubber wires which run diagonally, allowing it to move to and fro. The designers explain, “The ball can move, due to the sound waves, giving to the eye the impression of the ‘movement’ of sound.” The concept will be presented at Launch Pad at Wanted Design NYC later this month. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 77% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Multimedia](https://www.trendhunter.com/multimedia) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Spherical Floating Speakers:** The Vitruvio speaker's innovative design showcases the trend of speakers that break away from traditional shapes. - **Impact Visualization:** The suspended cube frame of the Vitruvio speaker demonstrates the trend of visualizing the impact of sound waves. - **Inspirational Designs:** The Vitruvio speaker draws inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci's iconic Vitruvian Man, reflecting the trend of incorporating historical and artistic influences in product design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Audio Technology:** The innovative design of the Vitruvio speaker presents opportunities for creating unique and eye-catching audio products in the audio technology industry. - **Home Decor:** The suspended cube frame concept of the Vitruvio speaker opens up possibilities for incorporating artistic and functional elements into home decor products. - **Event Design:** The Vitruvio speaker's visually striking design could inspire new approaches to sound and visual installations in the event design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Ceiling-Mounted Orb Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/andr-terchanian.md) - [Sculptural Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sonique.md) - [Minimalist See-Through Speaker Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/witalogy-speaker.md) - [Dice-Inspired Speaker Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dominote-speaker.md) - [Textured Acoustic Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhapsody.md) - [Space-Inspired Sound Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/beosound-2-vollebak.md) - [Sculptural Gondola-Inspired Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gondola-bluetooth-speaker.md) - [Nature-Inspired Speaker Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/devialet-butterfly.md) - [Donut-Shaped Wireless Speakers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orbit-speaker.md)
